Datianhou Temple, commonly known as Tainan Mazu Temple, was built in the 23rd year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1684 AD). The Tianhou Temple has undergone several renovations and is listed as a historic site in Taiwan. The Queen of Heaven is Mazu, the goddess that boatmen, sailors, travelers, merchants and fishermen of all dynasties believe in together. Taiwan's Mazu culture is particularly strong, which is related to the fishermen's culture along the coast. Before the ship sails, it is necessary to make sacrifices to the Queen of Heaven, to pray for good wind and safety, and to enshrine the Queen of Heaven on the ship. Among the nearly 400 Mazu temples in Taiwan, Datianhou Temple is the only Mazu temple included in the official Spring and Autumn Festival. The statues and sculptures in the temple are all from the hands of famous craftsmen. The precious richness of ancient plaques and ancient couplets is even rarer in temples in Taiwan. Datianhou Palace can be divided into four main parts, Sanchuan Hall, worship hall, main hall and apse, which are called "four entrances". In front of the main hall, there is a Danchi stone wall, carved with flying dragons, treading waves and soaring clouds, quite imposing, rare in other temples, fully showing the style of imperial architecture. When you come to the main entrance, the first thing you see is a pair of stone lions in front of the door, which are finely carved and unique in shape. The entrance gate is tall and majestic. It does not have the painted door gods of traditional temples, but it is equipped with many protruding wooden nails. On both sides are the figures of eight horses and dragons and tigers carved from granite, which are majestic and rough. Looking inward from the gate of the main hall, through the elevated patio and the narrow space of the house, you can see the full-body statue of Mazu shrouded in cigarettes and under the golden curtain. Mazu has kind eyes, kind eyes, and a serene demeanor. It is said that Mazu was originally pink noodles, but after being surrounded by incense for hundreds of years, the Mazu you see now has become a black "cigarette noodles". This statue was made by a Quanzhou master about 300 years ago, and it can be said to be one of the representatives of Taiwanese clay sculptures. The shrines on both sides of the statue of Mazu also enshrine the dragon king of the east, west, south and north and the narcissus king. In addition, another feature of the temple is that in addition to the Mazu in the main hall called aunt, there are also so-called "second mother" and "third mother" Mazu statues, whose shape is only half of the aunt's, with a pink face and two eyes. Open, it is different from the drooping eyelids of the Mazu statue. You may wish to visit it when you have time.

On June 30th 2013, the Hayashi Department Store(林百貨), the largest of Tainan's old building's, was opened for tours after refurbishment. Crowds lined up from 7 am until the afternoon to enter the "five story building" (五棧樓仔) built in 1932 during the Japanese Colonial Time. It was a very busy part of Tainan, but after the end of the Japanese Colonial Period, the owner returned to Japan, and the Hayashi Department Store was left empty, leaving people to eventually forget about its former glory. In 2014, its status as a department store was restored, with a great many limited edition Hayashi goods on sale inside. In addition, there are some important points that must not be missed: The elevator's floor indicator is the old style dial type, now probably the only remaining one in Taiwan, which preserves the authentic feel of the place. The Torii shrine on the top floor is also one of a kind, be sure to go upstairs and have a look. A hole in a wall from the bombing by US Forces during World War II is a link to the building's past.

CHIMEI Museum is a comprehensive museum with wide collections of Western art, musical instruments, weaponry and natural history. There are permanent exhibition galleries, one temporary exhibition gallery and sculpture halls in the main building.
The Chimei Museum exhibits more than 4,000 works, about one-third of the overall collection, including Western art, musical instruments, weapons, natural history and other fields. Such a diverse collection stems from the preference of founder Xu, and more importantly, allows different ethnic groups, such as men, women and children, to find their own areas of interest in the museum.
By bus: After exiting Bao'an Station, you will see Bao'an Bus Station across from it, take bus Red 3 or bus Red 4 → get off at the Tainan Metropolitan Park stop.

Ask any locals from Tainan about the most famous shop for drinks, they will all point to this place called Shuansen Beverages (双生綠豆沙牛奶) in city center. Bubble tea might have been the unofficial national drink of Taiwan, Shuansen is famous for green bean with milk. Their official hours might have been Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 6pm, but we were told that most often than not they sold out by 3pm. Their menu is simply with five different types of drinks plus the options for the tapioca pearls (a.k.a. bubble). And yes if you are into sweet drinks you are going to love this with rich green bean flavor.

Tainan’s famed Hua yuan Night Market might not boast the same history as other night markets in Taiwan but has rapidly grown into a huge night market with nearly 400 stalls. It is not only the largest night market in Tainan but also one of the most famous in Taiwan. In 2013, it was ranked 12th in Facebook’s top check-in locations. The market is divided into four zones including food, fashion, general goods, and recreation & leisure. Stalls often put up large banners overhead to attract customers’ attention. The sea of banners is one of the market’s distinctive sights and harks back to the marching armies of the Warring States Period.

Anping Old Street (安平老街) was the first street in Taiwan to be given a name. More than 300 years ago this was the first street built by the Dutch in Anping. In the early days, the street was built solely for pedestrians and push carts due to the fact that the street was narrow and there was not that much space to navigate. Many tourists coming to Anping must visit this street, and the noisy and bustling environment of Anping Old Street is one of its hallmarks. The street features all kinds of old stalls and shops, and regardless of whether you are a domestic or foreign visitor coming here to look for nick-knacks, raise your head once in a while to admire the Wind Lion Gods (風獅爺) on the roofs of the old buildings or take a look at the Sword Lions (劍獅) on the lintels of doors. There are many small alleyways within the Anping Old Street area, and each alley has its own characteristics and features, such as Jasmine Alley (茉莉巷) and Rouge Alley (胭脂巷). The area retains many of its old-style buildings, and when entering some of the more quiet alleyways it feels as if time is flowing backwards. The maze of alleys is filled with adventurous feel. It is a pity if you don’t explore the alleys when you come to Anping Old Street.
